How to Make Brushing Fun for Kids of All Ages

Posted on 12/10/2016 by Cynthia Pelley

As a parent, it is your job to make sure that your kids brush like the dentist says to do.

You need to brush their teeth twice each day, and for at least two full minutes of brushing time at each session. Plus, you need to get them to floss.

This doesn't sound like a difficult task, but for some kids, it can be incredibly difficult. If you have a child that dislikes brushing, you need to do what you can to make it fun. Here are a few things that you can do to help.

Making Brushing Fun Can Be a Family Project

One way that brushing can be made a bit more fun is to do it together. If a child believes they need to do it all on their own, but don't see you making it a priority, too, they are not going to take it as seriously as they should. Take the time to brush alongside your child at least once per day, and show them you are happy to do it.

Books are another great way to make brushing fun. They can enlighten kids as to the pros and cons of brushing, and can even give a bit of insight as to the dangers of not brushing. Each child has the potential to take on their own brushing responsibilities at some point. Make sure you are checking to see how complete of a job your child does on a regular basis.

Getting your children to brush doesn't have to be a massive chore. However, if you do not go out of your way to try and make it into something at least entertaining, it could end up being something they see as a chore. For more tips, contact our office today. Let them help inspire good oral habits.
