Don't Forget there are Germs on your Child's Toothbrush

Posted on 9/15/2015 by Cynthia Pelley
A baby boy with a toothbrush.Your child's toothbrush is meant to clean your child's teeth, but when it is not kept clean or not properly replaced, it can be putting germs back into your child's mouth. Here are some simple tips to keep your child's toothbrush clean and his mouth free from germs!

•  Always rinse your child's toothbrush with warm/hot water after brushing his teeth. This will remove some of the germs that are residing between the bristles, not giving them a chance to grow while the toothbrush is stored overnight
•  Make sure to store the toothbrush in the upright position. It should never be covered or placed near anyone else's toothbrush.
•  Replace your child's toothbrush at the change of every season in order to make it easy to remember when to change it. If he is sick in between those times, however, it is best to throw it out and get a new one.
•  Make sure your child never shares his toothbrush with anyone else (not even you) as the exchange of saliva can easily cause bacteria to grow in his mouth, putting him at risk for infection or even tooth decay.

These habits are important to instill in your child at a young age so that they become normal habits as he gets older.

If you need help instilling proper oral hygiene habits in your child, please call today! We will help you get your child's oral health back on track!
